About Wilston

Wilston is an Australian suburb of the City of Brisbane , Queensland.

Wilston is located approximately 3.4 kilometers from the central business district of Brisbane and is a mixture of old and new architectural styles, from cottages for staff to modern homes built by architects on Wilston Hill.

Wilston is home to many practitioners and many medical professionals due to the position within the city, proximity to the Royal and Female Hospital of Brisbane, and the views from higher streets.

History of Wilston

The place was renamed Wilston after the same name building, established by William Wilson MLC in 1868.

Built around 1876, the home was named Wilston House after the home at Derrykeeghan Mills, Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Ireland, where Wilson was born.

In 1884 the property was sold to John Stevenson, a merchant, who subdivided the farm.

The estate was built between 1924 and 1931 to provide further construction of housing.

The area has been changed in recent years by the reorganization of the Kedron Brook Street, an early example of the urban development phase to Brisbane City Council.
