The West End in Brisbane City, Queensland , Australia, is an inner southern fringe.

The neighborhood had 9,474 residents during the 2016 census.

History of West End

The area that reminds of the West End of London was named after early English colonizers.

There was an aboriginal settlement in the field of Musgrave Forest, which now sits at Brisbane State High School, until the advent of the Europeans at West End.

Boundary Blocks, particularly in the west end and in Spring hill, were called the Jagera and Turrbal residents. This is because of the discriminatory policies of dividing Foreign immigrants.

Tourist attraction in West End

The Gas Stripping Tower is a tower on 277 Montague Road in West End, Queensland , Australia which is a heritage site.

It was planned and constructed in 1912 by Robert Dempster & Sons Ltd. This was listed on 21 October 1992 in the Queensland Heritage Register.

Schools in West End

The West End Primary School is on Hardgrave Road and Vulture Lane. The school teaches up to six classes.

On 16 August 1875, the school of 236 students was founded and almost 800 student positions were opened.

A second site for the school was announced in 2017 as the current site is too small to cater for expected growth. The same announcement included a new high school for the district as Brisbane State High School in the adjacent suburb of South Brisbane is also unable to cater for expected student numbers.
