About Milton

Milton is Brisbane City, Queensland, Australia `s inner suburb.

Milton is situated approximately 2 kilometers (1.2 mi) west of the central business district. The area is a mixture of light industries , factories, corporate businesses, supermarkets and homes with single and multiple occupancy.

The major roads are Milton Avenue, running across the main western railway line and Coronation Street (formerly River Lane), running around the Brisbane River.

History of Milton

Europeans started arriving in the Milton area in the 1840s, with the property mainly used for cultivation and grazing.

The name of the suburb came from the name of the property "Milton Manor," which Ambrose Eldridge, scientist, used since the late 1840s.

Eldridge called this farm after the English philosopher John Milton.>

On Monday 27 May 1878, 68 lot areas were offered for auctioning by John Cameron. These lot areas were located in front of Milton Railway Station road.

This region was named the "Milton Farm"The allotments.
