Gordon Park is a residential suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The suburb is about 7.8 kilometres from the Brisbane CBD. It is U-shaped, bordered by Kedron Brook on its south and east.
Gordon Park took its name after General Sir Charles Gordon. He was the hero of the eight-month siege of Khartoum in Sudan in the late 19th century. The streets in the suburb such as Gordon Street, Khartoum Street, and Baker Street were mostly related to General Gordon, the armies he served with, and their sphere of operation.
During the 1980s-1990s, Gordon Park was reduced from a suburb to a locality, however it regained suburban status in the late 1990s.
Gordon Park has numerous parks including Montrose Street Park, Thistle Street Park, and Archer Street Park. There is also the Kokoda Park that occupies a picnic and dog off leash area. Amelia Park at 17 McCord Street which is an off leash dog park and features a bike rack, outdoor fitness/exercise equipment and playground.
The suburb has also heritage-listed sites including Alexander Barron`s house, and St Carthage`s School, a church and first of the schools in the Brisbane Archdiocese but was closed in 1976.
Gordon Park does not have schools. Stafford, Wooloowin and Kedron were the nearest primary schools in the suburb, while the nearest secondary school is the Kedron State High School.
