Carina is a residential suburb of Brisbane, Queensland Australia. It is approximately 7 kilometres east of the Central Business District, and borders Carindale, Carina Heights, Cannon Hill and Camp Hill.
The name Carina was taken from Ebenezer Thorne`s estate on Creek Road constructed in the 1850s. The estate was named after his daughter Kate Carina.
The Europeans were the first settlers in the suburb in which the land was mainly used for farming and timber-getting. It was in the 1880s and early 1900s when growth occurred because of the settlement in Belmont Shire that took Carina as its main place.
Carina has great parks to visit including Billan Street Park, and Belmont Recreation Reserve which features a car park, playground, picnic area/shelter and shared pathways. It also provides community organisations and facilities for Belmont Services Bowls Club, Carina Ambulance Station, Carina PCYC, and Creek Road Police Station.
The Joe Bradfield Centre Park in the suburb includes a bikeway, playground, tennis/netball/cricket, toilet, picnic area/shelter, drinking fountain as well as the Carina Library.
St Martin`s Catholic, a co-educational primary school and a secondary girl’s college near Carina`s eastern boundary was opened in 1954. It was followed by Mayfield State School, a primary school which caters from Prep to Year 6 that was opened on 27 August 1956. Another catholic school that was opened in 1961 is the San Sisto Catholic College.
Carina has Clem Jones Centre, a large sporting complex that actively promotes people in a wide range of sporting and fun leisure activities. The suburb is also a home to the Carina Tigers Rugby League Football Club.
