About Brisbane City

Brisbane City is the state capital of Queensland, Australia. It is the most populous city in Queensland and the third most populous in Australia. Situated inside a peninsula of the Brisbane River, is the Brisbane central business district, which stands on the historic European settlement.

History of Brisbane City

Brisbane City is named for Sir Thomas Brisbane, a British soldier and colonial administrator born in Ayrshire, Scotland. Brisbane was named at the time where Sir Thomas was a Governor of New South Wales.

The Brisbane region was first occupied by aboriginal tribes, notably the Yugara and Turrbal aboriginal clans.

Its land, river and tributaries were the source for fishing, farming, timbering, and other occupations. It was in 1859 when the town became a municipality and a consolidated metropolitan area in 1924.

Tourist Attractions in Brisbane City

Brisbane has major parklands including the riverside City Botanic Gardens, also known as Queen’s park, Roma Street Parkland, Victoria Park, South Bank Parklands, the Brisbane Botanic Gardens at Mount Coot-tha and the riverside New Farm Park.

There are also several national parks surrounding the Brisbane metropolitan area. The D'Aguilar National Park which is the major national park; the Glass House Mountains National Park, and  Tamborine National Park.
