About Ascot

Ascot is a suburb in the inner north-east of the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is about 6 km north-east of the CBD.

Ascot is steeped in heritage with old grand homes, and Brisbane’s historic racing club.

History of Ascot

The land was occupied by the Aboriginal Turrbal clan and called it Yowoggerra that means Corroboree Place.

The name `Ascot` arose from Eagle Farm Racecourse that was established in 1863. It was named in the suburb as a tongue-in-cheek reference to Ascot, England, and its prestigious Ascot Racecourse.

Tourist Attractions in Ascot

Ascot has several astounding heritage-listed sites.

The Windermere house that has the longest family histories in Ascot.  It is a large home with large surrounding gardens.

Musket Villa, a rendered masonry in the interwar bungalow style that has a social significance to the Queensland racing industry. As well Chateau Nous, a two-storeyed rendered masonry house that has a wonderful blend of Functionalist architecture and Art Deco design.

Schools and Sports in Ascot

Ascot has a kindergarten located in Kitchener Road, a preschool in Barlow Street and a state primary school in Pringle Street.

St Margaret`s Anglican Girls` School is a prestigious private school for girls that provides education from Pre-Prep to Year 12.The Ascot State School that  provides primary education from Prep to Year 6.

Ascot also has the Eagle Farm Racecourse, a horse racing venue in Brisbane. This is where the Brisbane Winter Carnival held, a major event happened each year in May and June.
