History of Albion

Albion takes its name from the Albion Hotel built by Thomas Hayseldon. It was derived from the Latin “albus”, meaning white. This is because of the white wall from John Petrie`s quarry that reminded Hayseldon of England`s white cliff.

The low-lying part Albion became better known when the swampy area north of the mouth of Breakfast Creek was chosen as the site of a racecourse.
